The review may contain spoilers. Into the Woods is a film adaptation of the Broadway musical hit. The story combines a number of classic fairy
tale stories so that they all take place at the same time in the same fantasy world. What Jack of Beanstalk fame does, impacts what happens with Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, Rapunzel and more. Driving the story is a wicked witch, played well by Meryl Streep of course, who tasks a baker and his wife to complete a number of tasks in order to remove a curse on them and herself. The baker and his wife are the main characters, played by James Corden (placing Craig Ferguson in late night tv) and Emily Blunt. An all star cast of great singers include Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman.
Now going into this story you start feeling, well I know all these stories and what’s going to happen so this will be of interest to young children only. While the hallmarks of the stories are there, even the more grisly ones, its how they interact with each other where the story takes a turn and becomes more interesting. Of course the songs and visuals are well done. The move is an unapologetic cheesy musical, even making fun of itself at times, so if you’re into that then sit down for the ride and enjoy yourself.
